About Dokpa Expeditions - Tsewang Gailston
Tsewang was born on June 7th, 1990 in Hunder Dok, Nubra, Ladakh. He is an Indian mountain guide, trekking leader, executive member of the Ladakhi Mountain Guides Association (LGMA), and a member of the Austrian Mountain Rescue (Lech). He is currently undergoing training with the International Federation of Mountain Guides Association.
Growing up in the small village of Hunder Dok at 4000 meters in Nubra, Tsewang began his work as a porter for the Indian Army, carrying loads on the challenging Siachen Glacier. In 2009, he moved to Leh and started as a kitchen helper for the renowned Rimo Expeditions company, participating in many famous treks across Ladakh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Sikkim.
Tsewang attended mountaineering courses at the Nehru Mountaineering Institute (IMI), graduating as the top student in the Advanced Mountaineering Course in 2015. Each winter, he works in Lech, Austria, assisting with mountain rescue operations.

Now an experienced trekking guide, Tsewang enjoys introducing tourists to both the natural beauty and fascinating culture of his native Ladakh. Over the past decade, he has become a dedicated mountaineer, achieving several first ascents of Himalayan peaks, including two near his home village. He is also passionate about running and placed second in the Khardung La Challenge—a marathon reaching up to 5,359 meters—in 2012.
